Asia Center Graduate Research Travel Grants

Harvard University Asia Center

These grants support graduate students conducting research at any time of the year, though funding is limited to projects of three months or less. Research must look at two or more countries of East, South, and Southeast Asia comparatively or explore the relations among Asian countries. Individual country topics may only be considered for Southeast Asian countries or if they are part of broader, multi-country research. This multi-country context must be made explicit in the application. Applications will be reviewed twice a year, once each during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Please note that some grants may be supported by funds with special conditions that will be made clear in the award letter. These may include attending donor-related events or making a brief visit to a partner institution during the funded activity period.

Grant recipients are required to submit a written report upon their return that may be used by the Asia Center online and in printed materials.

Grants are open to students who will be returning to Harvard for at least one semester following the funded activity. Students must be in good standing at the time of funding.

Harvard University is closely monitoring the coronavirus outbreak and based on the recommendations of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of State, is strongly discouraging travel to China until further notice.

The Asia Center will continue to consider applications for travel grants from students and faculty as usual, but please note that any funding decisions for travel to China will be provisional and contingent on a change to Harvard's current recommendation.
