Deborah Del Gais was the Curator of Asian Art at the RISD Museum for fifteen years and has also taught and has been a professional editor. Her publications include articles in the fields of Chinese art history and museum studies. She received her doctorate in Chinese art history from Yale University; her dissertation examined the tradition of Nine Songs handscrolls that began with Li Gonglin in the Northern Song period. Her current research project, which is an outgrowth of that topic, is titled “Li Gonglin’s Five Horses Handscroll: Context and Interpretation.” Her approach reflects her broad interest in the historical and cultural context out of which this major art historical monument evolved.
