Asia Center's Spring 2021 Visiting Scholar and Fellow application deadline is Friday, August 14, 2020

As part of its mission to promote intra- and inter-Asian research, the Asia Center invites applications from scholars who engage seriously with at least two Asian countries to become Asia Center visiting scholars and fellows. 

Visiting Scholar

Term: The minimum length of affiliation is three months; the maximum is one year with the possibility of renewal.

Qualifications: Must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent), have a current appointment at an academic institution, and have the appropriate English fluency to engage with and contribute to the Asia Center's scholarly community.

Conditions of affiliation: Must be sponsored by a current Harvard junior or senior faculty member (please refer to the Asia Center Affiliate Faculty Sponsor Acknowledgement Form for details on sponsor responsibilities) and participate regularly in Asia Center activities. Visiting Scholars will be expected to give a talk or prepare a paper on his/her/their research during the appointment.

Services provided by the Asia Center: Harvard ID card that provides library privileges; Asia Center business cards; Harvard e-mail address; J-1 visa sponsorship; limited staff support; access to a shared printer and copier; a desk in a shared office (dependent on availability).

Fellow

Term: The minimum length of affiliation is three months; the maximum is one year with the possibility of renewal.

Qualifications: Must hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) or higher academic degree and have the appropriate English fluency to engage with and contribute to the Asia Center's scholarly community.

Conditions of affiliation: Must be sponsored by a current Harvard junior or senior faculty member (please refer to the Asia Center Affiliate Faculty Sponsor Acknowledgement Form for details on sponsor responsibilities) and participate regularly in Asia Center activities. Fellows will be expected to give a talk or prepare a paper on his/her/their research during the appointment.

Application Procedure

 The following documents must be submitted to Tenzin Ngodup (tngodup@fas.harvard.edu) by the deadline below: 

   • Asia Center Application for Affiliation

   • Research proposal detailing what the applicant plans to accomplish during the appointment

    • Current CV or résumé

    • Letter of support from the faculty sponsor (sent directly from faculty sponsor)

    • Certification of English Language Proficiency (filled out and signed by faculty sponsor)

   • Asia Center Affiliate Faculty Sponsor Acknowledgement form (faculty sponsorship is a critical piece of the application) 

Deadline to apply: Friday, August 14, 2020

Decision: October 2020
