Southeast Asia in the Global Order
Bilahari Kausikan, Retired Permanent Secretary of Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs; former Singaporean Ambassador to the United Nations and Russia
Moderator: Richard Yarrow, Fellow, Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government, Harvard University
During his nearly four decades in Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bilahari Kausikan represented the Southeast Asian state at the UN, Russia, Canada, and as an Ambassador at Large, and served as the Ministry's Permanent Secretary.
Kausikan will discuss Southeast Asia’s role in the global order and how the region is misunderstood internationally. Addressing misperceptions of the region is important for understanding Southeast Asia’s responses to some of the great global tensions and geopolitical shifts of the present. Kausikan will also discuss how Southeast Asia's actions could serve as models for other regions.
