Longquan is a small city in Southeast China’s Zhejiang Province known for excellence in crafting two things: swords and celadon porcelain. Celadon production reached its peak during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Since then, Longquan has maintained a reputation for producing uniquely beautiful and high-quality ceramics. In 2009, the traditional firing technique of Longquan celadon was listed among the Masterpieces of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The Forbes House Museum’s exhibit includes 80 pieces of celadon artwork created by some of the top contemporary artisans in the country. Longquan’s signature porcelain has a blue-green or gray-green hue, created using unique glaze recipes and complicated and precise firing techniques that were first introduced nearly two thousand years ago.
