Jigme Yeshi

Jigme Yeshi was born and brought up in Darjeeling, West Bengal. He received his early education from St. Joseph’s North Point, Darjeeling. Later he moved to Delhi to pursue his further studies where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history from St. Stephen College, Delhi University (DU). During his graduation, he was active in the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and aided in organizing a number of events related to Tibet in DU. He has an MA in Political Science from Centre for Political Studies and an M.Phil. from the Chinese division of the Centre for East Asian Studies, School for International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. In 2017 he successfully defended and was awarded his PhD from the above-mentioned center in JNU. His research interest covers culture in theories of international relation, Himalayan Studies, Chinese domestic politics, Tibet and postcolonial studies. He participated in the “2012 Taiwan Study Camp for Future Leaders from South Asia” organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of China (Taiwan) and has presented his work in several national and international conferences.

He edited the book titled “Changes on the roof of the world: Reflection on Tibet”, a volume on Tibet brought out by Pentagon Press in 2016. He has forthcoming chapters in volumes to be brought out from international publication houses. He was awarded the 2015 Mira Sinha Bhattachejea Award for best paper by the Institute of Chinese Studies, New Delhi, India. He is currently based in Kolkata, West Bengal.
