Information for Authors
The Asia Center Publications Program welcomes submissions of original scholarly studies on both premodern and modern & contemporary Asia in the humanities and social sciences. While the program’s publications have traditionally centered on China, Japan, and Korea, we now also welcome book proposals on Southeast Asia, as well as works on Asia in transnational perspective.
The Publications Program publishes books in three series: the Harvard East Asian Monographs Series, the Harvard-Yenching Institute Monograph Series, and the Harvard Contemporary China Series. These series primarily feature single-author monographs, and occasionally multi-authored edited volumes.
Edited and conference volumes must demonstrate consistently high-quality writing across all chapters and open with a cohesive introduction that ties the chapters together thematically. Such volumes will be considered for publication only if the editors of the volume provide a subsidy sufficient to cover the costs of editing and production.
The Publications Program will also consider literary translations when embedded within a work of scholarly analysis, as well as textbooks and reference works that help students reach a level of fluency necessary to conduct primary research in Asian languages (for example, Literary Chinese).
Asia Center books are authored by scholars from around the globe and distributed worldwide by Harvard University Press.
