Support for the Vietnam Studies Program will help Harvard build a lasting platform for research, teaching, student engagement, and public dialogue on one of the most important countries in Asia and the world. Vietnam’s history and contemporary transformation speak to urgent global questions about conflict and reconciliation, development and inequality, climate resilience, technology and governance, health and education, culture and identity, and U.S.-Asia relations.
Philanthropic investment will allow the Program to move from an initial launch phase to a robust interdisciplinary platform that supports students, catalyzes faculty collaboration, convenes public conversations, and strengthens partnerships with institutions and communities in Vietnam and across the global Vietnamese diaspora.
Giving priorities
Student research and fieldwork
Support undergraduate, graduate, and professional students pursuing Vietnam-related research, fieldwork, language study, internships, and experiential learning.
Faculty research and interdisciplinary clusters
Provide seed funding for cross-school research clusters, workshops, and collaborative projects on Vietnam-related themes.
Teaching and curriculum development
Support new courses, modules, seminars, and teaching resources, including a potential interdisciplinary course on Vietnam in the world.
Visiting scholars and fellows
Bring scholars, practitioners, artists, writers, and public leaders from Vietnam and the Vietnamese diaspora to Harvard.
Public events and convenings
Support lectures, symposia, conferences, film screenings, cultural programs, policy briefings, and public dialogue.
Archives, oral histories, and digital projects
Advance preservation, translation, digital humanities, oral history, and public access to Vietnam-related materials.
